Mr. James Ernest Lanier, 81, of Denton, NC passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, at his residence. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Chapel Hill Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by Rev. Derald Smith. Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force. James was born on May 12, 1942, in Davidson County to Woodrow Ernest Lanier and Mildred Lookabill Lanier. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his quiet nature, good sense of humor, and his love for animals… Mr. Lanier proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran, he retired from the Air Force after 20 years of proud service. Following his retirement from the military, he worked at Davidson Energy United in Lexington, NC, until his retirement. In his free time, James enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, woodworking, playing with his slot cars, and watching NASCAR. His beloved dog, Bella, was his constant companion. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Russell Lanier; son, Bobby Lanier; his daughter, Cheryl Lanier Melvin (Bill); 2 grandsons, Brandon Lanier, and Will Melvin. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will greet friends following the graveside service on Thursday. James will be remembered for his love of family, dedication to his country, and spending time with loved ones.
