Eagle Springs Roger Martin Roger Ernest Martin, 79, of Eagle Springs, died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at his home. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Eagle Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Moore and Rev. Kenneth McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A life-long Moore County resident, Roger was born in Eagle Springs on March 18, 1931, to Roy and Beulah Lewis Martin. He was a member of Eagle Springs Baptist Church, where he served as trustee, deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Roger met his wife, Frances Smith, while attending West End High School and they were married in 1950. Early in his career, Roger owned and operated Martin Shell service station in Eagle Springs. He then founded and ran Roger Martin Trucking for many years, and later, Sandhill Brokerage Company. In recent years, he obtained his real estate license and was employed by Iron Horse Auction Company. He is survived by his wife, Frances of the home; 3 sons, Mike Martin and wife Gay, of Eagle Springs, Steve Martin and wife Nancy of Jackson Springs and Tim Martin and wife Joy of Eagle Springs; a daughter, Gloria Slate and husband Jim of Herndon VA; 2 sisters, Jewell Peppers of Elberton GA and Joyce Savage of Warner-Robins GA; 13 Grandchildren; 9 Great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Tuesday, May 11 at Eagle Springs Baptist Church and other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to the Eagle Springs Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, PO Box 118, Eagle Springs NC 27242 or to FirstHealth Hospice, 5 Aviemore Dr., Pinehurst NC 28374.
