Mr. Jack Herbert Lanier, age 85 of Gravel Hill Road, Denton, NC died Wednesday, May 15 at his residence. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, May 18 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Grady Blakley. Interment will follow at Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will see friends beginning from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Friday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times will be at the residence on Gravel Hill Road. Mr. Lanier was born February 23, 1928 in Davidson County to Hubert Wade Lanier and Sula Elliott Lanier. He was the owner and operator of a sawmill and and worked in the Lumber Industry for over 50 years. He was the founder and owner of Lanier’S Grocery on Gravel Hill Road for over 56 years. He organized the Lanier Ball Field next to his store over 35 years ago. He was of Baptist Faith and was preceded in death by a son, Ronald (Bear) Lanier, and by parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ollie Walker Lanier of the Home; sons, Harold Lanier and wife Brenda, Arnold Lanier and wife Debra all of Denton, Donald Lanier of Asheboro; daughters, Brenda Hunt and husband Junior and Diane Cook and husband Garry all of Denton; brother Richard Lanier of Denton; sisters Alma Frye of Seagrove and Betty Russell of Asheboro; 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
