On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, William Bruce Thompson passed away at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Bruce was born August 30, 1953 in Montgomery County, the son of the late William “Buck” and Rosa Britt Thompson. Bruce had a passion for God, his family and farming. Having worked at the Sandhills Research Station for 40 years as the Horticulture and Field Crop Supervisor and then “retiring” to the farm, Bruce loved to spend his time outside. If he wasn’t outside, he liked to spend time with his wife, Linda, and visit with his children, grandchildren, and friends.
Bruce was also part of many agricultural organizations including Montgomery County Farm Bureau, Montgomery County Cooperative Extension Agriculture Advisory Board, and former president of the NC Peach Growers’ Society. He was a longtime member and trustee of Marcus United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Corbin Bradfred Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Linda Wright Thompson; his children, Brad Thompson (Melody), Brooke Petty (Adam) and Bridget Conley (Charles); and his precious grandchildren, Bethany, Caitlyn, Connor, Rebekah, and Carson.
Bruce will lie in state at Briggs Candor Funeral Home from 2:00 – 5:00 pm Saturday, May 22, 2021. The family will not be present during this time.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Marcus United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jon Strother officiating. The family requests that those attending wear face coverings and remember social distancing. Also feel free to bring a lawn chair for the service.
