Rev. Warren Ernest Pierce, age 87 of Crousetown Road, Lexington died Sunday, January 11 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 14 at Community Baptist Church, in the Silver Valley community, with Rev. Brian Workman and Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Walter’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Pierce was born May 21, 1921 in Randolph County to Ernest Lafayette and Lillie Henderson Jackson Pierce. He was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army Air Force, serving from Oct. 2, 1942 to Oct. 30, 1945 and was with the 8th Air Depo Squadron , Accra, Africa. He was an ordained Baptist minister serving Tabernacle Missionary Baptist, Cedar Grove Baptist, Walter’s Grove Baptist and Solid Rock Baptist churches. He retired because of declining health after serving Solid Rock Baptist Church in Randolph County for 20 years. He was a member of Community Baptist Church in the Silver Valley community. He was retired as a supervisor with Thornton Knitting in Denton. Rev. Pierce was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Everett G. Pierce and Ralph T. Pierce; sisters Glenna Blizard Taylor and Eva Jane Hill. Rev. Pierce is survived by Oleene Gallimore Pierce, wife of 67 years who he married on December 14, 1941. He is also survived by four children; Zelda P. Willard of Floyd, Virginia, Brenda P. Wicker and husband Mack of Randleman, Phillip L. Pierce and wife Donna of Denton and Joy P. Leonard and husband Mark of Lexington; six grandchildren, Melanie W. Ratcliff and husband James of Floyd, Virginia, L. Allen Willard and wife Susan of Riner, Virginia, Kelly J. Wicker and wife Tina of Cedar Falls, Tony P. Pierce of Denton, Stacy R. Wicker and wife Rosemary of Cedar Falls and Jeremy M. Wicker of Randleman; three great-grandchildren, Rusty A. Moore, Nicholas J. Willard and Ashley N. Willard of Riner, Virginia. Also surviving are brothers, Troy H. Pierce and wife Doris of Lexington, Tiras C. Pierce of Thomasville, Elwood Pierce and wife Josephine of Albemarle and Lacy E. Pierce and wife Inez of Asheboro; sister-in-law Barbara L. Pierce of Archdale and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 9:00pm Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home on Crousetown Rd..
