Wanona Futrell Smith

August 18, 1928 — March 12, 2019

Mrs. Wanona Futrell Smith, age 90 of Denton died Tuesday, March 12 at High Point Medical Center.   A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, March 15 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at the Denton Town Cemetery.   The family will see friends from 11:30 to 12:30 PM Friday at Briggs Funeral Home.   Mrs. Smith was born August 18, 1928 in Montgomery County to Pleasant Pearl Futrell and Lucy Lenora Mullinix Futrell. She was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in Eldorado where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer and a member of the choir. She was a graduate of Troy High School. Mrs. Smith was the retired owner and operator of Denton Lumber Company, Inc. where she had worked for many years with her father, P. P. Futrell, before his death. She served a number of years on the advisory board of First Bank in Denton. She was married to Frank Smith, Jr. who died March 25, 2007.   She is survived by her son, Frankie Smith III and wife Vickie of Denton; grandson, Jason Smith and wife LeAnn of Denton; brothers, Gilbert Futrell and wife Nancy and Dale Futrell and wife Glenda all of Denton.   Memorials may be made to South Davidson Resource Center, PO Box 1197, Denton, NC 27239, or Alzheimers Association, 4615 Dundas Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407 or to the Donors Choice.
