Denton-Mrs. Virtle C. Griffin Virtle Cole Griffin, age 92 of South Hwy 109, Denton, formerly of Asheboro, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Clapps Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden Graveside Service will be Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 3:30 PM at Randolph Memorial Park with Rev. Rocky Patterson officiating. A native of Randolph County, Mrs. Griffin was born July 14, 1915, the daughter of George Washington Cole and Tomessie Boone Cole. She was a retired seamstress with Acme McCrary Hosiery Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Culpepper Griffin in 1980 and a son, Carlton Silas Griffin in 2000. Mrs. Griffin is survived by a son, Russell Rudolph Griffin of St. Cloud FL; 2 daughters, Martha Jane Ward of Greensboro and Darlene Sexton of Denton; a sister, Vessie Callicutt of Seagrove; 11 Grandchildren; 11 Great-grandchildren; 1 Step Great-grandchild; 1 Great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends at the home of Darlene Sexton, 109 South, Denton. Briggs Funeral Home in Denton is in charge of arrangements.
