Mrs. Virginia Lee Blackwell, age 81 of S. Snider Street, Denton, NC died Thursday, January 3 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Gerald Ward and Rev. Mike Irby. Mrs. Blackwell was born July 30, 1931 in Columbus County to Burris Evans and Bertha Soles Evans. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Blackwell was preceded in death by her husband; Ernest Blackwell, son; Earl Wayne Blackwell, daughter; Brenda Blackwell, and a grandson; Jerry Beaty. Survivors include, daughters; Mary Ann Burns of Denton, Patsy Foster and husband Thomas of Denton, and Barbara Gonneville of Pleasant Gardern, sons; William Ernest Blackwell and wife Becky of Lexington and Charles Ray Blackwell of Thomasville, brothers; Elmer Evans and Grady Evans both of Whiteville, 9 grandchildren, Laura and Cassy Burns, Angie hinsley, Amy Smith, Patsy Ann Lamb, Dina and Michael Gonneville, Edward Beaty, and Michael Glover and 10 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on S.
