Mrs. Virgie Gallimore Yates, age 91 of Bescher Chapel Rd., Denton died Thursday, November 20 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Sunday, November 23 at Walters Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Joe Yates and Rev. Jeremy Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Union Community Church Cemetery. Mrs. Yates was born August 5, 1917 in Davidson County to James A. and Hattie Myers Gallimore. She was valedictorian of the 1935 graduating class of Denton School. She was a homemaker and was a faithful member of Walters Grove Baptist Church where she served as secretary for over 70 years. Mrs. Yates was preceded in death by her husband John W. Yates in April, 1974. She was also preceded in death by grandchildren, Elisa Ann Yates and William Kim Mitchell. Mrs. Yates is survived by a son, Rev. Billy Joe Yates and wife Vickie of Lexington, daughters, Betty McElreath and husband Hoyt of Trinity and Joyce Mitchell and husband Wesley of Asheboro; one brother Paul Gallimore and wife Margie of Lexington, two sisters, Mamie Schuler of Lexington and Avis Surratt of Denton; four grandchildren, Gregory Yates, Christy McGuire, Jack Mitchell and Denise Davis, seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of the son on Jarrell Road.
