Vestal “C.G.” Garner, age 86 formerly of NC HWY 47, Denton died Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Mountain Vista Health Park. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Charles Tanner. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Mr. Garner was born March 11, 1929 in Davidson County to Albert Ray Garner and Viola Doby Garner. “C.G.” was a veteran of the United States Marines having served 2 terms during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFH and Amvets Post #240. “C.G.” was the 1st Ambassador for Project Santa, was of the Baptist faith, and retired after over 30 years from Link Taylor Furniture. Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his first wife Virgie Allene Yates Garner and by his second wife, Jessie Lois Hussey Garner. Surviving are daughters Vickie Tysinger and husband Richard of Denton and Ann Clark and husband Dwain of Asheboro; brothers, Max Garner of Thomasville and Bobby Garner of Winston Salem; sister, Nancy Wood of Denton; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of Nancy Wood on N. Main St., Denton. In lieu of flowers memorials can be designated to Project Santa in c/o First Baptist Church PO Box 515 Denton, NC 27239.
