Vergie Earnhardt Benner

Mrs. Vergie Earnhardt Benner, age 93, of Mountain Vista Health Park, formerly of Finch St., Denton died Thursday morning at the health park. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Mrs. Benner was born November 8, 1919 in Stanly County to Adam Eugene and Bessie Evalene Cagle Earnhardt. She operated Vergie’s Beauty Salon in Denton for many years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and had opened her home to several student pastors serving the church during the summer. She was a second mother to Jennifer Allen and Laura and Hannah Myers for many years. She was preceded in death by her first husband Raymond E. Burleson and second husband Paul Benner. Mrs. Benner is survived by sons, Raymond E. Burleson, Jr. of Oak Island and John R. Burleson of Greensboro, daughters, Barbara Bailey of Fuquay Varina and Dian Deal of Faith, brother Gene Earnhardt of Charlotte and sister Mabel Drye of Virginia, nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
