Velez Buie

Mrs. Velez Bryant Buie age 85, formerly of Denton Rd. Denton, passed away on Friday, May 05, 2017 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Monday, May 8 at Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. Flynn Richardson and Rev. Clint Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Velez was born May 16, 1931 in Davidson County to Lendo Hughes and Ella Bryant Hughes. She was a graduate of Davis Townsed and an active member of Summerville Baptist Church until her decline in health. Velez retired as the Activity Director for Mountain Vista Health Park in 2007. In addition to her parents Velez was preceded in death by 2 half-brothers, Pal and Phillip Hughes and half-sister, Greta Hughes Wilson, and by her son-in-law, Jim McDonald. Surviving are her husband, Albert Ray Buie of Denton; son, Alan Buie of Denton; daughter, Kathy McDonald of Denton; grandsons, Adam Buie of Batesville, AK and Alex Buie of Raleigh; half-brother, Robbie Hughes of Denton; half-sister, Marnell Beeson of Lexington. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of Kathy McDonald on Denton Rd. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Mountain Vista Health Park for the wonderful care and love given to Velez.
