Thomas Ellis Mallard, 92, Mallard Lane, Candor, died Monday, October 19, 2015 at his residence. Graveside Services will be 2:00 PM Friday with military honors at Candor Cemetery, with Rev. Misty McAden officiating. Mr. Mallard was born December 26, 1922 in Jackson County, GA, the son of Rudolph and Inez Garrison Mallard. He worked in maintenance with Gulistan Carpet. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving in Patton’s 3rd Army, and was in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and in the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula in 2005, a sister, Eva Stewart and 5 brothers, Lloyd, Walter, Edgar, George and Frank Mallard. He is survived by his daughter, Fern Mallard Yancey and husband Dennis of Candor; sister, Lorene Chappell of Derby; 3 grandchildren, Scott Yancey and wife Lizzie, Jordan and LuAnn Yancy; one great-granddaughter, “His Princess”, Grace Yancey. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Cricket. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM Thursday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home.
