Mrs. Sylvia Martin Harris, age 70, of Denton died Thursday night, October 17 at Randolph Hospice House. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Harris and her husband Tommy who died in 2009 will be 5:00 pm Monday, October 28, their anniversary date, at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Conley officiating. Mrs. Harris was born November 7, 1942 in Randolph County to John Pierce Martin and Maxine Walker Martin. She was a graduate of Grays Chapel School and a longtime member of New Hope United Methodist Church. She had worked at Edgar Knitting in New Hope and Councill Company in Denton. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Thomas “Tommy” Harris who died October 1, 2009. She is survived by two sons, Arthur Thomas “Art” Harris, III of Denver, NC and Richard Brown “Rick” Harris of Denton, one daughter, Johnnie Rene Harris of Hampton, Virginia, her mother, Maxine Martin of Climax, two sisters, Joy Walker of Franklinville and Robin Moore of Climax, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
