Shelby Surratt Futrell

Mrs. Shelby Surratt Futrell of Forest Park Drive Denton, NC died Tuesday, March 15 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. Funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Warren Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Denton Town Cemetery. Born in Randolph County on January 29, 1938, she was the daughter of James Watson and Alene Davis Surratt. She was preceded in death by her husband Benson Futrell, Jr. in 2013. She is survived by 2 sons, Benson “Ben” Saunders Futrell, III and wife Addie of Moncks Corner, SC and James “Jimmy” Bruton Futrell and wife Jody of Lexington; 3 sisters, Jackie S. Furr of Denton, Brenda S. Tuttle of Wilmington and Nancy S. Bean of Asheboro; 4 grandchildren, Emma Kate Futrell, Laura Futrell, Alyssa Futrell and Ashlyn Futrell. Shelby had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and children. Home held a special place in her heart, where she found peace, contentment, and joy. Shelby smiled often, laughed easily, and loved unconditionally. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence.
