Mrs. Sarah Swicegood Grice, age 71 of South Main Street Ext., Denton, NC passed away Sunday February 12 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 15 at Summerville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Flynn Richardson and Rev. Doug Rowe. Burial will follow at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Denton.
The family will see friends from 3:00 until 6:00 PM Tuesday, February 14 at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.
Sarah Was the daughter of Cleo “Peg” Swicegood and Mina Brown Swicegood. She was a 1969 graduate of Lexington Senior High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC Charlotte. Sarah taught seventh and eighth grade science and math at Central Davidson Middle School until her retirement in 2004. She found much joy teaching students about wildflowers and minerals. She enjoyed fields trips to Hiddenite NC to search for minerals with her students. Even in retirement not many days did not go by without her mentioning one of her students in a loving manner. In her younger years, sunny Sunday afternoons in March and April would be spent looking for wildflowers on the family Farm. Sarah’s pride and joy was her granddaughter Roxy Grice and her adopted grandchildren, Jayden, Hailey, Ariana and Alex Benitez.
She is also survived by her husband of 48 years, David Grice; son Chris Grice and wife Regan of Charlotte; daughter Lindsay Grice and husband David of Denton; adopted daughter Maria Benitez and husband Beto; sister Marsha Lynn Myers.
