Samuel Phillips

Mr. Samuel Hughes Phillips, age 95 of Parsons Street, Candor, NC died Sunday, December 23 at his residence. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, Dec. 27 at Candor United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Deborah Wilkins and Rev. Sam Wicker. Burial will follow in the Candor Town Cemetery. Mr. Phillips was born April 15, 1912 in Chatham County to George Frank Phillips and Fannette Hughes Phillips. He was the retired co-owner and manager of G & M Sales. He had lived in Candor 56 years and was a member of Candor United Methodist Church where he had served in many offices including a member of the Administrative Board. A Mason for over 50 years he was a member of Biscoe Lodge # 437 AF & AM. He was married to Eunice Clark Phillips for 67 years before her death July 1, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a son, Frank C. Phillips in August, 2002 and by 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by a daughter, Elaine Wicker of Greensboro, a daughter-in-law, Marie S. Phillips of Charlotte, by 2 grandsons and 5 great grandchildren. Special friends Ronald and Ann and Marti Gordon. The family will see friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Candor United Methodist Church.
