Mrs. Ruth Pierce Hughes, age 90, of Trinity died Monday, July 1, 2013 at her home following several years of declining health. Funeral service for Mrs. Hughes will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 3 at Jackson Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Joe Yates officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. Mrs. Hughes was born December 16, 1922 in Randolph County to James L. and Annie Rebecca Miller Pierce. She was a member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of the women’s group. She had worked for 33 years with Union Carbide. Her favorite hobbies were gardening and quilting. Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by one brother, Harlan Pierce and three sisters, Ruby Pierce, Lois Pierce and Fleta Small. She is survived by her husband Willis Hughes of the home, one son Wayne Hughes and wife Elaine of Thomasville, one daughter Shirley Skeen of Trinity, one brother Dempsey Pierce and wife Diane of Trinity, four grandchildren, Wendy Miller and husband Dale, Darren Hughes and wife Margie, Jamie Skeen and wife Tabitha and Dana Skeen and five great-grandchildren, Daniel Miller, Olivia Miller, Adrienne Miller, Devin Skeen and Sophia Hughes.
