Ruby Delk Harris

Mrs. Ruby Briggs Delk Harris age 98, formerly of Old HWY 64, Lexington passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Mountain Vista Health Park. A funeral service will be held at Piney Grove United Methodist Church 7594 Jackson Creek Rd. Denton, NC 27239 on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 3:00 pm conducted by Rev. Steve Joyce. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Ruby was born September 28, 1917 in Anson County to Ivey Lee Briggs and Addie Mae Burkhart Briggs. She had been a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church since 1935, where she served as the pianist for over 40 years, and she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Ruby was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Colin Delk in July of 1973; by her second husband, Luther Harris in June of 2005; and by her brother, Arlin Briggs; and by a sister, Lena Beck. Surviving are sons, Adrian Delk and wife Barbara of Lake Lure and Boyd Delk and wife Elizabeth of Lexington; sisters, Edith Honeycutt and Wilma Byerly all of Lexington; 4 grandchildren, Datra Delk Patrick, Ann Delk McColl, Penny Lundgren, and Darin Delk; 6 great grandchildren, Claire, Ian, Andrew, Sarah, Briggs, and Sam. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service on Sunday and other times at the home of son, Boyd Delk. Briggs Funeral Home in Denton is serving the family.
