Roy William “Bill” Reece, Jr., of Candor, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Private Graveside Inurnment services will be held at a later date in the Boonville Community Cemetery. He was born August 24, 1938 in Boonville NC to the late Roy William and Elizabeth Shore Reece. He attended Mars Hill College and graduated from North Carolina State University. He served in the NC Air National Guard. Following marriage to Ardith Hutchens, they moved to Samarcand Manor, where he served as the farm manager. After relocating to Montgomery County, he was employed as an agent with the NC Cooperative Extension Service and later served as the County Extension Director until his retirement. He was a member of Candor UMC, where he served as an usher, long-time Chairman of Trustees and Council Chairman. He was a life member of the NC Peach Growers Society, President of Candor Lions Club and had received many awards for his extension work. He had many interests, including gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Mr. Reece is survived by his loving wife Ardith of almost 60 years, sons Scott (Nancy) of Wake Forest and Todd (Sherry) of Troy; 3 Grandchildren, Hannah Kate, Cole and Elizabeth of Wake Forest; 2 sisters, Anne (John) Campbell of Pilot Mountain and Mary (Gale) Wooten of East Bend; brother, Wade (Kathy) Reece of Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Candor UMC, PO Box 456, Candor NC 27229 or to J. Wade Shore, Sr. Scholarship Endowment, NC State Alumni Association, Campus Box 7503, Raleigh NC 27695-7503. (Please include J. Wade Shore Endowment on memo line of check).
