Mr. Franklin Ronald (Ronnie) Steed, age 73, of Denton, NC passed away peacefully on October 14, 2020 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a courageous and valiant 4 year battle with Leukemia.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 18 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. James T. (Chip) Webb. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Face coverings are required and remember to practice social distancing
Mr. Steed will lie in state prior to the service on Sunday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home.
Ronnie was born in Davidson County, NC on May 21, 1947 to Roland and Erlene Varner Steed. He was a member of First Methodist Church. In addition to his parents Ronnie was preceded in death by a sister, Jill McDowell.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Klass Steed of the home; daughter, Lyndy Steed of Southmont; son, Corby Steed of Cornelius; stepson, Daniel Thompson and wife Diane of Asheville; two grandchildren Lawrence and Penelope Thompson; sister, Kitty Gallimore and husband Ralph of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Eddie Steed of Swansboro and Dave Steed and wife Lois of North Myrtle Beach. Ronnie was also a favorite uncle to more than a dozen nephews and nieces. In his parents final years he attended to their every need and was their primary caregiver.
Ronnie was a graduate of Denton High School and attended East Carolina University where he majored in Political Science. After college and being an entrepreneur, he returned to Denton where he was involved in several successful businesses. Prior to retirement 3 years ago he was co-owner of the Old Country Store.
Ronnie was an outstanding athlete at Denton High School where, along with his lifetime best friend, Tom Morris, started for 4 years on the baseball team, making all conference their Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years. In those years Denton played in the Central Carolinas Conference where they competed against much larger schools but none the less more than held their own against the stiff competition. In later years Ronnie was a little league baseball coach.
He loved the Denton community and was always striving to do his part to make it the wonderful and unique community it is today. He was well respected by all. He was very generous person and many times anonymously assisted those less fortunate. He was known for his quick wit and used humor to everyone’s best advantage. His infectious smile will be missed by his many friends.
