Roger Dale Lanier, age 64, of NC Hwy. 49, Denton died Tuesday, Oct. 4 at his home. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 8 at Gravel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Hosler and Rev. Gerald Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home on Hwy. 49. Mr. Lanier was born March 5, 1947 in Randolph County to Herbert and Madge Lee Russell Lanier. Before his health declined, he had worked at Commercial Carving as a spindle carver. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Russell Clark Lanier. He is survived by his wife, Linda Whittington Lanier of the home, sons, Dale Lanier and wife Kelly of Denton and Derrick Lanier and fiancée Tabitha of Denton, one daughter, Tammy Lanier Gaines and husband Darryl of Greensboro, one sister, Jean Stout of Ramseur, six grandchildren, Whitney Brown, Dillon Brown, Taylor Gaines, J. R. Lanier, Ivie Lanier and Mason Lanier. The family would like to thank Hospice of Randolph and the caregivers, especially Kenneth Temple, for their loving care and support of Roger during his illness.
