Mr. Robert Willis Duty, age 77, of Lanning Craven Road, Denton died Saturday, December 25 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington following an extended illness. Funeral service for Mr. Duty will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Freddie Moretz officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home on Lanning Craven Road. Mr. Duty was born January 18, 1933 in Russell County, Virginia to Jesse and Addie Mae Owens Duty. He attended Faith Baptist Church and had worked for many years at Crowder Construction in Charlotte. He was a talented woodworking craftsman, sharing that talent with family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald W. Duty and a brother, John Duty. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rachel Smith Duty of the home, two sons, Mike Duty and wife Donna of Cramerton and Mark Duty and wife Debbie of Tennessee, three daughters, Rita Bridges and husband Sam of Shelby, Beverly Heitman and husband Monte of Thomasville and Rhonda Goforth and husband Bill of Hamptonville, daughter-in-law Lynn Duty of Hamptonville, one brother, Ronald Artrip and wife Diane of Cleveland, VA, three sisters, Thelma Wilson and husband Curt and Laura Ryburn and husband Sam, all of Abington, VA and Frances “Frankie” Shoaf and husband Don of Lexington, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
