Richard Allen Plowman, Sr., age 84, of Denton, North Carolina, peacefully entered into the gates of heaven on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Atrium Health Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was born on May 4, 1941, in Anson County, North Carolina, to the late Brown Lowe Plowman and Martha Knotts Plowman.
For the majority of his lifetime, Richard dedicated himself to serving in the ministry as a preacher. His passion for faith was complemented by his creative spirit as a painter, showcasing his appreciation for both the spiritual and aesthetic dimensions of life. Richard had a profound love for his family, often fondly referring to his wife, Lois Dingess Plowman, as his angel, a reference to their meeting at Bojangles which he cherished deeply.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Lois, and their daughters, Rebecca White and her husband David, Sheila Mills and her husband Rich, and Christina Bryant. He is also survived by his sons, Tommy Plowman and Robert Knuckles, along with his brother, Curtis Goodman. The legacy of Richard is further carried on by his grandchildren, Megan Jones, Adam White, Kristen Bowers, Amanda Roberts, CJ Bryant, Caroline Jackenhimer, and Brian Shank, as well as his great-grandchildren, Addison, McKenna, Maddox, Murray, Asher, Lillian, Enoch, and Walker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brown and Martha Plowman, his first wife Alma Plowman, his son Ricky Plowman Jr., and his brothers Billy, Bobby, and Gary Plowman, his sister Doris Jacobs
Richard's life was characterized by unwavering faith and a steadfast commitment to serving others, and he leaves behind a family that will forever remember him for his love, wisdom, and guidance.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. The funeral service will take place on Friday, January 23 at 2:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wendel Floyd officiating. Interment will follow at Pierce's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Rebecca and David White at other times.
Richard will be greatly missed, but his spirit and teachings will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
