Mr. Richard Samuel Hurley age 89 of Hurley Road, Jackson Springs, NC died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 6. A Memorial Service will be 1:00 PM Friday at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Paul James officiating. He was born in Moore County on September 7, 1923 to William W. and Dora Thomas Hurley. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army Air Force. After the war he began a 30 year career with Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph before taking early retirement to work on his family farm. Richard married Thelma Denny of Reidsville, NC in 1949, and together they had four children and 54 years of marriage before her death in 1995. He is survived by his children, Susan Hurley Dull of Jackson Springs, Faith Hurley McArthur and her husband Dan of Pinehurst, Stephen Hurley and his wife Susan of Smyrna GA and Samuel Hurley of the home. He is also survived by a brother, Nelson Hurley of Jacksonville, FL and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceding in death are four sisters and three brothers, Viola Hurley Allen, Irene Hurley Davis, Esther Hurley McInnis, Doris Hurley, Thomas Hurley, Benjamin Hurley and Frederick Hurley. He is also preceded by one son-in-law, Larry B. Dull. A private graveside service will be at Hurley-Thomas Cemetery in Jackson Springs.
