Rachel Elam Kenion, of Pinehurst, passed away at FirstHealth Hospice House, Pinehurst, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Mrs. Kenion was born on Dec. 15, 1928, in Candor, a daughter of Howard Mack Elam and Virgie Stevenson Elam. She graduated from Candor High School and earned an Associate degree from High Point College. She served her community as a board member of the Montgomery County Health Department, circle leader of the Presbyterian Women of Candor Presbyterian Church, member of the Garden Club of Candor and chairman of the Democratic Party of Montgomery County.
Rachel was happily married to Edmund O. Kenion for more than 48 years. Their relationship was loving and filled with selfless devotion that touched everyone around them.
She is survived by daughters, Lee K. Hart and her husband, Jimmy, of Winston-Salem, Mary Jo Lambert, of Candor, Kathy K. Desmond, of Pinehurst; grandchildren, Jessica St. John and her husband, Ryan, and their daughter, Annie, Ashley Hart, Jamie Slominski and her husband, Alex, and their children, Hayden and Luke, Wil Lambert and his wife, Melissa, and their children, Adrian, Kylie, Liam and Kenion, and Carly Jo Lambert; and a sister, Betty Jean Harris, of Candor.
Rachel’s kindness, love and spirited sense of humor touched the lives of many people from every area of her life. Those who met her, loved her. Her smile made others smile. And if you made the list for her pecan pie, you had shared your servant heart with her. She enjoyed golf, bridge, reading and everything about the Carolina Tar Heels; but most of all, she loved her Moda time with her three daughters.
A graveside service will be held at Candor Cemetery, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 24, with a visitation with the family at Briggs Funeral Home at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts may be made to FirstHealth Hospice, or a charity of your choosing, in memory of Rachel Kenion.
Rest in peace, Mamoo. You will forever be in our hearts and memories. Well, bye…
Services entrusted to Briggs Funeral Home of Candor.
