Rachel Smith Duty, 85, of Denton went to be with Jesus, Monday January 6, 2025, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
She was born July to 24, 1939, in Greensboro NC to the late William James and Rilla Norwood Smith. Rachel worked at Council Craftsman in Denton for many years. Rachel loved spending time with her friends at the auction and especially spending time with her great-granddaughter; Ryah Michelle Parsons. Rachel was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Denton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert W. Duty of 44 years; brother James W Smith; sister Iris Fittery, sister Elizabeth Jarrett, son Don Duty, and son-in-law Sam Bridges. Rachel is survived by her fur-baby “Sam”, daughter Beverly (Monte) Heitman, son Mike (Donna) Duty, daughter Rita Bridges, and daughter-in-law Lynn Duty. Grandchildren: Monica (Matthew) Parsons, Jennifer (John) Suttle, Chris (Kate) Duty, Chad Bridges, Nicole Bridges, John (Abigail) Duty, Sarah (Jason) Romesburg, and Anna Duty along with 17 great-grandchildren. She also survived by her baby brother Bobby Smith along with many nieces and nephews that were dear to her heart also

The family will receive friends Thursday January 9, 2025, at Briggs Funeral Home of Denton from 6pm to 8pm. A funeral service will be held Friday January 10, 2025 1:30pm at Faith Baptist Church of Denton with Entombment following at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Lexington, North Carolina.
