Paul Yarborough

Mr. Paul V. Yarborough, 88, a retired Principal, formerly of Arbor Drive, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Hinkle Hospice House after a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 19 at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, by the Rev. Frankie Matthews. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 PM Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home. Mr. Yarborough was born January 10, 1923 in Davidson County to Robert Lee Yarborough and Nannie Lee Grubb Yarborough. He was a graduate of Lexington High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Appalachian State Teachers College. He later received his Master’s Degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. He was a veteran of US Army, having served in Europe during World War II. He served thirty seven years with the Davidson County Schools, first as a teacher and Coach at Linwood School. He later served as Principal of Silver Valley Elementary School for eight years and retired as Principal of Davis-Townsend Elementary after nineteen years. He was a devoted member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons for the Church, as well as the Sheets Memorial Christian School. He was an avid supporter of missions and missionaries and a member of the Church Choir for many years. His beloved wife, Mary Sparks Yarborough, preceded him in death in 1998, as well as his sister, Mildred Yarborough Carroll and her husband, Robert C. “Bob” Carroll. He is survived by his nieces, Joan Carroll Briggs and husband, Jack, of Denton and Nancy Carroll Brown of Baltimore, MD; his nephew, Jimmy Carroll and wife, Carolyn, of Denton; and many great nieces and nephews and their families. Memorials may be made to Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, 210 Cotton Grove Road, Lexington NC 27292.
