Mr. Gerald Othell Surratt, 96, formerly of W. First Street Denton passed away on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at Thomasville Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 4:00 pm Tuesday, Oct.17 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. James Cooper and Rev. Benny Clodfelter presiding. Interment with military honors will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Mr. Surratt was born April 8, 1921 in Davidson County to Cone Theo Surratt and Meda Garner Surratt. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army and member of Central United Methodist Church. Othell was employed as a leading car salesman with Hill Motor Company in Denton for 25 years. During his time as a car salesman he was honored by Ford Motor Company by earning Top Hatter recognition 7 times and 17 times a member of the 500 Club. Through the years he enjoyed farming with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Excell Surratt. Surviving is wife, Ava Lea Lanier Surratt of the home; daughters, Barbara Ann Hogan, Lea Ann Hamilton both of Denton, Martha Ann Sheffield of Asheboro and Suzanne Surratt of Denton; brother, Noel Surratt of Walkertown; 5 grandchildren, Chrissy Hedrick, Lee Hamilton, Christopher Biggers, Patrick Hogan, and Gabriel Davis; 2 great-grandchildren, Steven Bray and Alec Biggers.
