Mrs. Olean Harris Vaughan Yates, age 87, of Denton died Tuesday, April 5 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. A graveside service for Mrs. Yates will be 2:00 pm Friday, April 8 at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Denton with Rev. Butch Conrad officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:30 pm Friday at Briggs Funeral Home. Mrs. Yates was born December 2, 1923 in Davidson County to John and Martha Adaline Goss Harris. She was a graduate of Davis-Townsend School. She was a member of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ and had worked for Erlanger Mills in Lexington for a number of years and retired from Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. Mrs. Yates was preceded in death by her first husband Wallace Earl Vaughan on June 6, 1947 and second husband Joe Yates on April 24, 1997. She is survived by one son, Donald Vaughan and wife Carolyn of Hillsborough, one daughter, Pam Jarman and husband Garrett of Lexington, one sister, Ruth Bingham of Asheboro, two grandchildren, Gary Jarman and wife Donella and Jeff Walton and wife Susan, four great-grandchildren, Collin Jarman, Aubrey Jarman, Nick Walton and Zack Walton, three step-children, John R. Yates of Denton, Kevin C. Yates of Thomasville and LaVera Bennett of Salisbury. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292
