Nora Cagle Smith

July 10, 1916 — August 3, 2011

Mrs. Nora Cagle Smith, age 95, of Denton went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, August 3. Funeral service for Mrs. Smith will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 5 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Ward and Rev. Arnold Comer officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will see friends Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home on Old NC Hwy. 49, Farmer community. A Randolph County native, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Reid and Betty Cagle. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. I. “Jack” Smith and sister, Polly Cagle Boyles. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was known for her love of baking and giving to others. She was a graduate of Greensboro Beauty College and owned and operated Farmer Beauty Shop for many years and retired from Burlington Industries. She also had worked at Cross Roads Rest and Retirement Center and was a Hospice and Salt Box volunteer. She was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church in Denton. Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Roy Smith and wife Linda of Farmer, daughters, Patsy Smith Comer and husband Arnold of Seagrove and Nancy Smith Cranford and husband Kenneth of Farmer, 8 grandchildren, Sharon and Kevin Smith, Neal, Alan and Susan Comer Greene and Chad, Derek and Seth Cranford , 15 great-grandchildren, and brothers, John Cagle of Asheboro and Dyle Cagle, Glen Cagle and Paul Cagle of New Hope. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Farmer Christian Academy, 4751 Dunbar Bridge Road, Asheboro, NC 27205, New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, c/o Marlon Miller, 6414 Volunteer Rescue Road, Denton, NC 27239 or Bethel Baptist Church, 159 Klopman Mill Rd., Denton, NC 27239 The family would like to express their special thanks to all the nurses, CNA’s and staff who lovingly cared for Mrs. Nora at Clapps Convalescent and Nursing Home during her lengthy illness.
