Mrs. Nancy Garner Wood, age 84 of North Main Street, Denton, NC died Tuesday, May 29 at her residence. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 31 at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shane Smith. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will see friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church. Mrs. Wood was born September 27, 1933 in Davidson County to Albert Ray Garner and Viola Doby Garner. Mrs. Wood was a member of First Baptist Church, a graduate of Denton High School and Pfeiffer College. She was employed as a medical secretary for 50 years, working in the Griffis Clinic Building for Dr. W. Ken Gobel and the Dr.’s F.H. and F.C. Mangundayao. She was a charter member of the Denton Ladies Civitan Club and a member of the Garden Thyme Herb Guild. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by brothers, C. G. Garner and Max Garner. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bob Wood of the home, a son Robbie Wood and wife Amanda of Denton; a daughter Andrea Wood Duncan and husband Daryll of Lexington; a brother Bobby Garner and wife Tami of Denton; grandchildren, Ashley “Nana’s sweet angel”, Caroline, Payton and Joshua; great grandchildren William “Bam Bam”, Ashton, Emma and London Hayes (honorary grandchild).
