Mrs. Merle Hunt Owen, age 86 of Flat Swamp Road, Denton, NC died at her residence Tuesday, August 10, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 13 at Summerville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Thomas Frizzell and Rev. Flynn Richardson. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, August 12 at Briggs Funeral Home. The family request those attending please wear mask and observe social distancing. At other times they will be at the residence. Mrs Owen was born October 19, 1934 in Davidson County to David Hill Hunt and Clara Bell Cooper Hunt. She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a caregiver at the First Baptist Church Day Care Center. She had also worked as an inspector in the Hosiery Manufacturing Industry. She was married to Burnice Lindsay Owen who died September 23, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, by a son, David Owen, by a brother Robert Hunt and a sister Betty Gallimore. She is survived by a son Chris Owen and wife Sherry of Denton; daughters, Sharon Bean Marlow and husband William and Donna Cottrell and husband Ernest all of Denton; grandchildren, Brandon Owen and wife Sierra, Michael Owen and wife Heather, Toby Cottrell and wife Mandy, Ernie Cottrell and wife Tammy, Mickey Bean and wife Kathy, Candy B Sapp, Mark Bean and Leisa, Tonya Baker and husband Barney, Valentine Hagemeier and Saiema Schatz; 16 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
