Melvin Leon Dunn, 72, of Denton, died Saturday, April 3, 2021 at W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Funeral Services will be private. The Dunn Family will have Mr. Dunn lie in state from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home in Candor. Masks are required and social distancing is to be observed and attendance numbers will be monitored. Born in Moore County on August 27, 1948, he was the son of Gilbert and Mable Cooke Dunn. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Vietnam. He retired from the Department of Corrections as a Captain. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed camping, woodworking, golfing and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Tawana Blakley Dunn of the home; son, Jeremy Dunn and wife Kelly of Asheboro; 2 daughters, Marcia Dunn and fiance’ Joe of Troy, and Janice Brown and husband Brandon of Candor; 2 brothers, David Dunn of Troy and Jimmy Dunn of West End; 9 Grandchildren, Alexis, Kody, Jeremy Jr., Alyssa, Zachary, Katlyn, Ashleigh, Nicholas, and Joseph; 2 Great-grandchildren, Grayson and Layla. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516, or to Randolph County SPCA, 300 W Bailey St, Asheboro, NC 27203, or to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place • Memphis, TN 38105. Briggs-Candor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the Dunn Family.
