Maxine Parrish

Mrs. Maxine Elizabeth Newsom Parrish age 88, of Lexington passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Chris Smith and Rev. Flynn Richardson. Interment will follow at Summerville Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Parrish was born November 16, 1928 in Davidson County to Corbett Newsom and Jessie Henderson Newsom. She was a graduate of Denton High School Class of 1945 and had previously worked for GE and Black and Decker for 36 years. Maxine was a member of House of Hope Church. In addition to her parents Mrs. Parrish was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Parrish in 2008; sisters, Dorthy Hegler and Evon Galinskas; and brothers, Donnie and Cotton Newsom. Surviving are daughter, Dianne Parrish Carrick of Denton; son, Harold Parrish (Joyce) of Lexington; grandchildren, Amelia Parrish and Amanda P. Surratt (Allen); great-grandchildren, Beckham and Reed Surratt; brother, Ronnie Newsom (Louise) of Denton; special niece, Betty Hilton; nieces, Michelle Whitlock (Sam), Lisa N. Brewer (John), Judy H. Thurman, Debbie Hampton (Randy) Kim Revis (Perry) Sandra Loomus, Wanda Hill (Bobby); nephews, Marshall Hegler (Ann), Todd Newsom, Swayne Brown (Andrea); sisters-in-law, Lou Newsom and Joyce Newsom, and adopted sons, Carl Grubb (Louise) and Bill Brady (Harriet). The family would like to say a special thanks to little Jerry Younts adopted Maxine for his Mom; Jimmy McElroy special nephew always bringing treats, Todd Hughes for being the greatest friend to our family, and special caregiver and wonderful friend Harriet Pullum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence.
