Mary Steele

Mary Carhart Steele, 77, of Lands End Rd. Denton, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Keith Carroll presiding. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary was born March 25, 1941 Rahway, New Jersey to LeRoy Carhart, Jr. and Mary Oberstaedt Carhart. She worked as a telephone operator and later she owned a shop until her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary in Lexington. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Steele and sister, Carol Lee Carhart.

She is survived by daughter, Cathy Hornyak of New Jersey, son, Billy Hornyak of South Carolina, and daughter, Christine DeWitt and husband Bob of New Jersey; sisters, Helen Goodale of Arizona and Ginny Carhart of Texas; niece Jennifer Aberbrombie.
