Mrs. Mary Linzey McDowell Russell, 82, of Johnson Farm Rd., Denton passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Randolph Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, Nov. 12 at Gravel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Reeves presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mary was born October 2, 1935 in Davidson County to Harvey Ray McDowell, Sr. and Mary Buie McDowell. She married James Russell on July 24, 1953 in Chesterfield, SC. Along with being a homemaker Mary also worked in Textiles for many years. She was a long time member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the Choir. Mary enjoyed going to the beach and mountains. She was preceded in death by sisters, Hazel Hepler and Oudia Coble; brothers, Harvey Ray McDowell, Jr. and Jimmy McDowell. Surviving her is husband, James Russell of the home, sons, Leslie Russell of Denton and Ralph Russell and wife Barbara of Asheboro; caretaker, Melissa Formato and Husband Tony; sisters, Lucy Hartley of Mocksville and Vergie Whisant of Hickory; brother, Roy McDowell of Denton, and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence.
