Martha Morton

Martha Ellen Herron Morton, 71, of River Rd., Troy died Saturday, August 29, 2009 at her residence. A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead conducted by Rev. James Rupard and Rev. Bruce Pope. Mrs. Morton was born March 17, 1938 in Mecklenburg County to Thomas Green (T. G.) Herron and Selma Russ Herron. She was a member of Wadeville Baptist Church, she worked in textiles and was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Parnell in 1999. Survivors include, husband; Wayne Morton of the home, daughters; Cynthia (Cindy) Morton of Troy and Ruby Parnell of Mt. Gilead, sisters; Lula Mae Miller of Matthews and Geraldine Thompson of Mt. Gilead, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The family will see friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Troy and other times at the residence on River Rd.
