Marshall Smith

April 26, 1929 — May 22, 2022

Mr. John “Marshall” Smith, 93, of NC HWY 47, Denton passed from life to everlasting life, Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Lexington.

A funeral service will be 2:30 PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel officiated by Rev. Claudie Harrison and Rev. Wendyl Floyd. Interment will follow at Denton Town Cemetery.

Mr. Smith loved the Lord and loved his family. He was born April 26, 1929, to Johnnie Smith and Elbie Scarboro Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Hoover Smith; grandson, David Surratt; and by brother, Willard Smith.

He was a retired business man and builder and a faithful member of Lights for Life Holiness Church. He was especially fond of miniature horses and gardening.

Left to cherish his memories are daughters, Donice Loflin (Roger), Pansy Hunt (Doug), and Patricia Smith; his sister, Doris Harris (Hoyt); 4 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:30 until 2:30 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on HWY 47.

The family is especially grateful for the loving care provided by caregivers June Gailey and Patricia Parrish; Dr. Baker, Helen & staff; nurse Cyndie and staff at Lexington Medical Center.
