Mr. Mark Edward Thompson, age 53 of Flat Swamp Lake Road, Denton, NC died Thursday, April 15 at Lexington Memorial Hospital from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Sunday at Lexington Community Church with Rev. Eric Disher officating. Burial will follow at Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery in Southmont. Mr. Thompson was born on September 9, 1956, in Guilford County, the son of James E. Thompson and the late Joyce Casler Thompson. He was the owner/operator of Whitley’s Restaurant since March 1, 1997 and was a participant of the Lexington Barbecue Festival. He was also a former employee of Hickory Printing in High Point. He was a member of Lexington Community Church. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Spivey Thompson of the home, 2 daughters, Emily Thompson and Lauren Thompson, both of Denton; his father, James E. Thompson and wife Cathy of Denton; a sister, Sherry Hedrick and husband Reece, of Lexington; 2 Grandchildren, Andrew and Owen Michael; father in law, Donald “Catfish” Spivey of Denton; a sister in law, Maria Swaney and husband Phil of Thomasville; niece, Anna Swaney; 6 nephews, Bryan and David Steed and Paul Carroll, Matthew, Jacob and Jeremy Swaney; and a great-nephew, Cohen Steed. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on Flat Swamp Lake Rd, Denton.
