Margaret Goodwin Slack

Mrs. Margaret Goodwin Slack, age 85, of Denton died Monday, June 1 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. Funeral service for Mrs. Slack will be 2:00 pm Thursday, June 3 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Foust officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Slack was born August 18, 1924 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to William Louis and Ella Mae Denson Goodwin. She was a 1942 graduate of Denton School an active member of First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She worked in the cafeteria at Denton Elementary School for over 25 years. She was an excellent baker and shared that gift with many friends and neighbors. She loved the time she spent with her friends at Bojangles. Many knew her by her nickname, “Mug”. Mrs. Slack was preceded in death by her husband, J. R. Slack who died January 26, 1979. Mrs. Slack is survived by two sons, John R. Slack, Jr. and wife Janet of Denton and Ronald Scott Slack of Lexington, three grandchildren, Dena Caudle, Melinda Wingate and Julie Slack and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 425, Denton, NC 27239
