Lucille Ellison Saunders, age 96, formerly of E. Noell Ave., Denton died Monday, September 26, 2011 at Mountain Vista Health Park. Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Thursday, Sept. 29 at Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. John Edward Saunders officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. The family will see friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of Melanie Elliott on Varner St., Denton. Mrs. Saunders was born April 15, 1915 in Summers County, West Virginia to Edward Manning Ellison and Mary Upton Ellison. She was a homemaker and a member of Summerville Baptist Church where she was active in the Golden Youth. She was preceded in death by her husband; Herbert Clyde Saunders on Jan. 22, 1992, by her son; Jack H. Saunders, and by grandchildren; Stephen, David, and Maryana Tinsley. Survivors include, daughter; Janet S. Tinsley and husband Bobby of Louisville, KY, daughter in law; Millie Saunders, sister; Lorene Horne of Indianapolis, IN, grandchildren, Melanie Elliott and husband Jimmy of Denton, Jeffrey H. Saunders of Cleveland, NC, Timothy M. Saunders of Charlotte, Sarah S. Overcash of Mooresville, Milinda (Mindy) S. Black and husband Kevin of Indian Trail, and Julie T. Hartman and husband Steve of Scottsville, KY, great grandchildren; Kristen Yarrington, Christopher Saunders, Katie Saunders, J.R. Overcash, Andy Overcash, Jarrett Black, Sarah Hartman, Leah Hartman, and Quinn Hartman. The family ask memorials be made Mountain Vista Health Park PO Box 1547 Denton, NC 27239.
