Leander (Lee) Horne

Rev. Leander Horne DENTON — The Rev. Leander “Lee” Horne, 82, of Lindsey Street, Troy, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Thomasville Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with Dr. Kelly Burris and the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will be in First Baptist Church Cemetery. He was a native of Mt. Croghan, S.C., the widower of Agnes Rivers Horne and a graduate of Fruitland Baptist Institute. He was a pastor at churches in North and South Carolina, a retired pastor of Summerville Baptist Church, Denton, and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Surviving are daughters, Brenda Burris of Virginia Beach, Va., Pat Williams of Jacksonville, Ala., Leslie Varner of Denton; brother, Joe Horne of Lancaster, S.C.; sister, Myrtis Carter of Lancaster, S.C.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Leslie Varner, Crystal Bay Drive, Denton.
