Earl Lawrence Markham,76, of Hwy 109 South, Denton, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his residence. Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Brian Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Born in Danville, VA on July 2, 1941, he was the son of Clarence Markham and Irene Markham Plummer. He worked in maintenance at Burlington Industries for over 35 ½ years. He was a member of Hoover’s Grove Wesleyan Church for over 40 years, where he was the choir director, a former Sunday School Teacher and former assistant superintendent. He loved to hunt and fish, to camp with his wife Rebecca and poodle Muff, to sing, ride his motorcycle and four wheeler, and to visit with family. He loved to make walking canes, which he gave to people, and his favorite places to eat were breakfast at Bojangles with his buddies and to have a hot dog at the Old Country Store. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rebecca Davis Markham and his second wife, Alma McDowell Markham and a brother, Lea Markham. He is survived by 2 sons, Allen Markham of Denton and Randall Markham (Michelle) of Asheboro; 3 daughters, Darlene Massey (Billy) of Randleman, Judy Cagle (Joe) of the New Hope Community, and Leslie Ridge (Daniel) of Denton; stepson, Odell McDowell (Angie) of Trinity; 2 brothers, Wayne Markham of Denton and James Markham of Denton; 5 sisters, Jean Hunt of Denton, Janice Kindley of Denton, Brenda Plummer of Denton, Betty Essick of Thomasville, and Angie Warren of Thomasville; 7 Grandchildren, Megan Snider (Fred), Ashely Burton (Derrick), Avery Markham, Eli Varner, Tabitha Owenby (Nick), Brandon Markham, and Jacob Markham; 5 Step-grandchildren, Valerie McDowell, Aaron McDowell, Rowdie McDowell, Tator McDowell, and Joshua McDowell; 5 great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Dante, Sophie, Madison, and Colten. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph County, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro NC 27203.
