Laura Katherine Lawrence

Laura Katherine (Kathy) Lawrence passed away October 8, 2019.  She was the oldest daughter of A.C. and Elizabeth Thomas Lawrence.  She was the granddaughter of Carson and Nellie Pegram Lawrence of Richmond County, and William D. and Christian Kennedy Thomas of Moore County.  She was pre-deceased by an infant brother.   Growing up Kathy was very involved in the local 4-H Club, especially the Horse Project.  She continued as a volunteer with 4-H on the local, county, district, and state level, and was inducted into the North Carolina 4-H Hall of Fame in 2009.  She was active in the Moore County Genealogical Society for a number of years.  She was instrumental in implementing a neighborhood watch program.   He work experience included 29 years with The Pilot and Whistlestop Press, and 9 years as bookkeeper at Carthage Farm Supply.  She is survived by one sister, Ellen (Ronnie) Fields of Randleman, an uncle, Ed Lawrence of Hamlet, and numerous cousins.   A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be at 11:00 AM Friday, October 11, 2019 at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Elizabeth Forester officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.   Memorials may be made to Moore County 4-H Program, PO Box 1149, Carthage NC  28327 or The American Cancer Society.   Briggs-Candor Funeral Home is serving the family.
