Mrs. Katherine Cook Varner, age 82 of NC Hwy # 8, Denton, NC died Wednesday, October 7 at her residence. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, October 9 at Alleghany Church with Rev. Richard Gould, Rev. Claudie Harrison and Rev. Thomas Frizzell officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 prior to the service at Alleghany Church and other times will be at the residence. The family would appreciate anyone attending the funeral service to please wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Mrs. Varner was born April 5, 1938 in Davidson County to Ross L. Cook and Genie Lanier Cook. She was a member of Alleghany United Methodist Churc where she had served as pianist. Before retiring she had worked in the cafeteria of South Davidson High School. She was known for her baking and cooking abilities. She enjoyed working at the Denton Farm Park and had served as a precinct worker with the Davidson County Board of Elections. She was married to A. Clyde Varner who died November 4, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by brothers, Lawrence Cook and Edward Cook. She is survived by sons, Greg Varner and wife Christie & Kevin Varner and wife Dawn all of Denton; a sister Mary Etta Summitt and husband Jack of Archdale; sister-in-law Billie L Cook of Denton; grandchildren, Eli Varner, Alli Varner and Alivia Varner.
