Katherine "Mrs. Kathy" Ann Jordan Swaney, a beloved children's librarian and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. Born on June 13, 1958, in Horry County, South Carolina, she dedicated her life to fostering a love of reading among children.
Her passion for literature led her to a fulfilling career as a children's librarian at the Denton Public Library, where she became affectionately known as "Mrs. Kathy." Over the years, she participated in countless story hour programs, sharing her enthusiasm for books with many children who looked forward to her engaging storytelling and warm presence.
Kathy's nurturing nature extended beyond the library, as she was deeply invested in the lives of her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Clinton Swaney. Together, they created a loving home that was filled with laughter and fond memories. Kathy leaves behind her son Christopher Ray (Emily), and her daughter Katrina Jordan (Bill). Her legacy continues with her cherished grandchildren: Gray, Allie, Mary, and Olivia, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also mourned by her brothers, Eddie "Buddy" Jordan and Kevin Mark Jordan, as well as her sister, Lila Jane Beal.
Kathy was also known for her diverse interests, which included sewing, quilting, writing in her journal, and most importantly, sharing love and attention with her grandchildren. The creative spirit she embodied touched the lives of many, making her an unforgettable figure in the community. She had attended High Rock Baptist Church in Randolph County until a decline in her health.
Katherine was preceded in death by parents, Rev. Eddie Allison Jordan, and Lila Albertine Jordan.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled for November 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Briggs Funeral Home - Denton Chapel, located at 103 E Salisbury St, Denton, NC 27239. A funeral service will immediately follow, beginning at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Eddie Hill. Katherine will then be laid to rest during the interment at Pierce's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and Cemetery in Trinity, NC. At other times beginning on Friday at noon the family will receive guest at the residence.
Katherine "Mrs. Kathy" Jordan Swaney's legacy of love, kindness, and commitment to education will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered as a guiding light in the hearts of many.
Memorials can be made to the Denton Public Library in memory of "Mrs. Kathy".
