Jurlean Morgan Thompson

March 25, 1936 — April 18, 2018

M s. Selma Jurlean Morgan Thompson, age 82, of Flat Swamp Lake Road, Denton, NC passed away on Wednesday,  April 18, 2018 following several months of declining health at Brookstone Retirement Center in Lexington.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Monday, April 23 at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Southmont with the Rev. Tammy Talbert presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 to 3:00pm, prior to the service at Macedonia United Methodist Church and other times at the residence.

Ms. Thompson was born on March 25, 1936 in Star, NC.  She was the daughter of the late Eltis Hahn Morgan Lankford and Albert Clayton Morgan. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 52 years, Carroll “Pete” Harley Thompson, and her sister Cynthia Morgan Bowman.

She was member of Macedonia Methodist Church in Southmont for almost 50 years. In 2008 she was awarded the Laity Service award and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Piedmont Emmaus Community and faithfully served in the kitchen for several years. She was well known as a talented and gifted seamstress, enjoyed working in her yard, loved spending time at the beach with family and friends, and never met a stranger. Jurlean had the unique ability to make everyone feel like family.

To carry on her memory is her surviving family, which she loved dearly, sons, Kenneth Thompson, Alan Thompson and wife Teri, both of Wilmington, NC; David Thompson and wife Greta of Rose Hill, NC and Wayne Thompson of Denton, NC; grandson Taylor Thompson and wife Deanna; brother Fred Morgan of High Point, NC; great-granddaughter Aubrie, and step-grandchildren Ashton Kornegay, Gregory Knowles, and Eddy Bushnell, and step great-grand daughter Olivia Kornegay.

The family would like to thank Brookstone Rest Home for the care they gave their Mother for the last few months of her life and their extra heartfelt gratitude to her granddaughter-in-law, Deanna, who devoted herself to be Jurlean’s caregiver for many months.
