Junior Stephen Burkhardt

Mr. Junior Stephen Burkhardt, 78, 3781 Regan Rd., Denton NC died on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Junior was born February 11, 1931 in Marshall MI. He resided in Bronson for 54 years. He graduated from Athens High School in 1949. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the US Army. He retired after 32 years with Consumers Energy. His passion of race cars led him and his son Mark to create a family operated business, Burkhardt Racing. Junior was preceded in death by a son, Jeff and brothers, Nyle and Elwyn. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlene; a son, Mark and his fiancee Kathy of Denton, NC; former daughter-in-law Deb Burkhardt of Bronson; grandchildren Kip Burkhardt and his wife Michelle of Coldwater, Jennifer Cox and husband Darrell of Ridgeway, VA, Austin and Kylee Yerrick of Denton, NC; great grandchildren Ashley, Bailey and Coley Burkhardt, and Danika Cox; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be announced at a later date in Michigan. Briggs Funeral Home of Denton, NC is assisting the Burkhardt family.
