J.T. Davis

Mr. James Thomas “J. T.” Davis, age 95, of Denton died Thursday, June 6 at his home. Funeral service for Mr. Davis will be 3:00 PM Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharon Lee and Rev. Benny Clodfelter officiating. Burial will follow in the Denton Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, June 7 at Briggs Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence on N. Jones Street. Mr. Davis was born May 7, 1918 in Davidson County, the son of Matthew Will and Jane Taylor Davis. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he was the oldest male member. He had worked as a foreman at Bisher Hosiery Mill for almost 60 years. He served on the Denton Town Board for many years. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Val Davis and Sam Davis and three sisters, Theo Moody, Lillian Daniel and Nina Carrick. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Edna Morris Davis of the home, two sons, Steve Davis and wife Donna of Denton and David Davis and wife Sandra of Durham, one daughter, Janice Baldwin of Jacksonville, three grandchildren, Thomas Francis “Te” Baldwin, Jr. and wife Christina, Matthew Alan Baldwin and wife Cindy and Brett Matthew Davis and four great-grandchildren, Hannah Christine Baldwin, Thomas Francis “Trey” Baldwin, III, Elizabeth McCrae “Ellie” Baldwin and Caris McClain Baldwin. The family wishes to thank Sherry Clodfelter and all the caregivers for their loving care as well as our hospice nurse, Robin Horne.
